Quote

Alone I fish in the cold river, in the falling snow.

Greeting

Writing exists to illuminate the Way, not as decoration.
All birds gone from a thousand mountains, all footprints vanished from ten thousand paths — yet I fish alone.
Take the essence of the ancients and make it useful for today.

Roll Call

Even in exile I never set down the brush.
The lone fisherman answers the call.
If it is to illuminate the Way, I shall not decline.

Deploy

Wield the essence of the ancient texts as your weapon!
Strip away the ornament and leave only the core!
Take up the brush for the Way!

Victory

The writing illuminated the Way. That is enough.
Prose without ornament has won.
Taking the old and making it useful — there is the reward.

Draw

Being left alone on the snow is not so bad.
I still have more to say.
Compared to exile, this is nothing.

Defeat

The writing lost, but the Way did not.
All footprints vanished, yet I cannot reel in the rod.
Only ornament won — nothing more.

Strike

Cut away the excess!
Strike with the Way!
Pierce with a single word!

Overview

High intellect combined with strong reflection formed a sublimation-type intellectual who converted political failure into literary capital. Pessimistic life-tone and individualistic disposition created a unique genre of lyrical exile literature, while high diligence and command ability enabled parallel service in local governance and literary creation.
