Quote

The beacon fires have burned for three months; a letter from home is worth ten thousand gold.

Greeting

The nation is shattered, yet mountains and rivers remain.
If my brush could startle the ghosts, that would be my life's purpose.
Gazing at the moon a thousand li from home, I write this poem.

Roll Call

I set down the brush and step forth.
I hear the cries of the people. I must go.
If there is still use for this old body, I will not refuse.

Deploy

Release the grievances of the starving people!
If poetry cannot astonish, then take up the sword!
Rebuild the fallen mountains and rivers!

Victory

Tears stream down at the news of victory at Jianmen.
At last, the road home is open.
Mountains and rivers remain — so we can begin again.

Draw

Even in spring, the grass only grows deeper.
The fires of Chang'an have not yet been extinguished.
Three months of beacon fires, and no end in sight.

Defeat

I hear the weeping old man dragged away at Shihao.
The nation is shattered; only weeds remain.
I scratch my head, and even my hairpin cannot hold.

Strike

Unleash a verse that startles the spirits!
The grief of ten thousand people rides on this brush!
Over the fallen walls — forward!

Overview

A sublime moral intellectual who became the Sage of Poetry through infinite compassion for human suffering combined with Confucian loyalty. Top-tier benevolence and reflection scores meeting the tragic reality of war's brutality completed a history written in poetry; humility in self-abasement and principled temperance form a nearly perfect virtue balance.
