Quote

To study the Buddha way is to know oneself deeply, and to know oneself is merely to empty the ego and forget oneself.

Greeting

To study the self is to forget the self.
If you cannot find truth right here and now, where else will you look?
Please sit. Zazen itself is enlightenment.

Roll Call

I am fully awake in this single breath.
I will neither seek nor grasp. I will simply follow.
The ten thousand things come forward and illuminate themselves.

Deploy

Transcend life and death. Focus on this very moment!
Do not hesitate. Each step is practice!
Do not follow the traces of the old masters — seek what they sought!

Victory

The ten thousand things merely came forward and proved themselves.
I only acted without seeking recognition for good done.
Practice was enlightenment itself.

Draw

Flowers fall though we grieve; weeds grow though we resent them.
Let go of attachment and the next step becomes clear.
Without clinging to life and death, there is no winning or losing.

Defeat

Even in delusion, there is something to learn.
It is because I could not forget myself.
Falling is also part of practice.

Strike

Sever delusion with one clean stroke!
Pierce through the shell of illusion!
Pour a whole lifetime into this single move!
