One-Eyed Dragon Date Masamune

CommanderJP1567 — 1636

Daimyo of the Sengoku period and first lord of the Sendai domain. Known as the One-Eyed Dragon, he ruled as the mightiest warlord of Oshu despite losing one eye.

With the cloudless, clear crescent moon of a steadfast heart, I shall thoroughly illuminate every darkness of this murky world.

Quote

With the cloudless, clear crescent moon of a steadfast heart, I shall thoroughly illuminate every darkness of this murky world.

Greeting

The One-Eyed Dragon has come. One eye down, but nothing to fear.
Think of yourself as a guest in this world, and no pain can touch you.
Too much righteousness becomes stubbornness; too much kindness becomes weakness.

Roll Call

The wind of Oshu blows toward the battlefield. Are you ready?
One eye is more than enough to read the world.
Don the crescent helm. The Date forces march.

Deploy

Date cavalry, charge!
Break through the flank! We end this in one blow!
Gunners, volley fire — then cavalry pushes through!

Victory

The name of the One-Eyed Dragon thunders across the land.
In a world gone mad, I won with a sane mind.
Beyond Oshu, the Date banner now stands over all.

Draw

Did my missing eye fail me? No — the time simply wasn't right.
No rush. The One-Eyed Dragon knows patience.
Next time, I finish it for certain. Withdraw.

Defeat

I lost today, as I once lost an eye. But I do not stop.
This world is a chain of suffering. As a guest, I endure it.
The Date name has been tarnished. I will wash it clean without fail.

Strike

Cut them down!
Rush forward!
Bring me the enemy general's head!

Overview

High command and charm fused with bold disposition produced a composite commander who simultaneously pursued Tohoku unification and Western diplomacy. Intellect and progressive orientation led to the ahead-of-its-time decision to send envoys to Europe; low humility and loyalty sustained his independent course against Japan's unifiers.
